About

An independent archive on Italian bell heritage

BellHollow collects and presents documented information on church bell traditions, campanile architecture, and bell ringing practices across Italy — drawn from publicly available records, architectural surveys, and historical accounts.

Last updated: May 2026

What this archive covers

The three primary subject areas are bell founding — the casting of bronze bells in traditional foundries such as the Pontificia Fonderia Marinelli in Agnone — campanile architecture across Italy's distinct regional building traditions, and the organised practices of bell ringing and bell tuning in Italian parish churches.

Each article draws on published sources including Britannica, academic architectural surveys, and the documented records of the Marinelli foundry itself, which has maintained continuous production since around the eleventh century. Where sources diverge, both positions are noted without editorial resolution.

Editorial approach

Content on this site follows a descriptive rather than promotional register. There are no sponsored articles, no commercial recommendations, and no affiliation with any bell foundry, tour operator, or heritage body. The material is presented as a reference rather than as advocacy for any particular craft tradition or regional identity claim.

Articles are updated when new documented information becomes available. Update dates appear at the top of each article page.
